Young Frankenstein currently ranks as Number 13 on the American Film Institutes list of the 100 Funniest American Movies.
After spoofing Westerns with his comedy Blazing Saddles, Mel Brooks decided to send up the classic Universal horror films Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein, so he teamed up with Gene Wilder and wrote Young Frankenstein.
The story involves Dr. Frederick Frankenstein and his efforts to resume the experiments started by his mad scientist grandfather in bringing the dead back to life. He leaves his tightly wound fiancee Elizabeth and travels to the family castle in Transylvania where he receives assistance from the hapless hunchback Igor, and the beautiful but not-too-bright Inga. At the castle, they are greeted by the forbidding housekeeper, Frau Blucher, whose name causes horses to rear up in fright. Soon, Frederick is caught up in his grandfather's work and brings to life his own version of the Monster, who terrorizes the countryside after a musical number of "Puttin' on the Ritz" goes horribly wrong.
This Rubber Chicken Live Read of Young Frankenstein will feature the vocal talents of a score of Rubber Chicken Theater performers, including Minden Hultstrom as Inga, Jill Hoffman as Frau Blucher, Brian Matuszak as Frederick, Luke Moravec as Igor, Cheryl Skafte as Elizabeth, and TV's Pat Kelly as The Monster.
Also, Midi Restaurant will be creating Young Frankenstein-themed drinks available for purchase. (Rubber Chicken Theater promises that the show will be much more entertaining after a few Abby Normals.)
Tickets are $10 and available at the door.
